Concrete Slab Builders

Need to have a concrete slab poured in the Buffalo area? You've come to the right place.

What is a concrete slab?

An extremely important and common structural element, concrete slabs are mostly constructed on surfaces to provide a useful and flat surface. Oftentimes, homeowners will use them for hot tubs and jacuzzis or the foundation of outbuildings like sheds and barns.

Concrete slabs typically are not very thick, usually only 4-6 inches at the most, which is formed by the space the concrete is poured into. Thanks to the strength and durability of concrete, slabs are extremely effective at helping whatever structure is built on it withstand heavy loads.

What We Build Concrete Slabs For

Over the years, we have built concrete slabs for a variety of things such as:

  1. Concrete Hot Tub Pads

Types of Concrete Slabs

With that being said, there certainly are different types of concrete slabs that are used for different applications depending upon the climate and the site situation.

  • The conventional on-the-ground slab
  • The waffle pods concrete slab
  • The suspended concrete slab
  • The precast concrete slab

Our professionals at Dietz Decorative Concrete will make sure they understand your project, and what your slab is going to be used for, to make sure we can provide you with exactly what you need.

Why use a slab?

There are certain functions that slabs need to provide:

  • It creates a flat surface to build on
  • The strength of the concrete safely supports the load on top
  • It also acts as a fire heat insulator
  • It serves as a thermal mass to help balance temperature (nice for those Buffalo winters!)

How they're built

Concrete slabs and other types of flatwork are typically installed on-site. Concrete slabs installed above ground are shaped with the use of forms, which can be made of wood, plastic, or steel. Meanwhile for ground slabs, instead of using forms, we simply dig into the ground and use the landscape as the form.

The team at Dietz Decorative Concrete specializes in concrete slabs and can give you the right foundation for your new barn, house, shed, or any other building.

Reinforcement

While pouring a new slab, reinforcing steel is normally placed inside the slab to provide support and hold the concrete together. Even though straight bars are more common, cranked bars are sometimes used for reinforcement.

Why are concrete slabs so popular?

For houses, many builders like to use concrete slabs since they are eaier to install than a full basement, reduce the overall construction time, and it saves the customer a ton of money. Additionally, they are extremely versatile and can be designed in a way that suits almost any type of soil and they are virtually maintenance-free. Other benefits of concrete slabs include

  • They creates an effective moisture barrier.
  • They're affordable.
  • They're extremely durable.
  • It also provides a protective barrier against all kinds of insects.
  • It also helps to maintain an extremely comfortable internal temperature.
  • Concrete slabs can also be polished, stained, or colored to your liking to give you the aesthetic floor you're looking for.
